Palmer Candy Company, Sioux City, Iowa, is recalling its “White Coated Confectionary Items” because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

Palmer Candy was notified by its liquid coating supplier that there was a potential for contamination with salmonella from an ingredient that was potentially contaminated from one of their suppliers.

The recalled Confectionary Items were distributed nationwide in retail stores and to wholesale. See the attached link for full recall information.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

Consumers who have purchased White coated confectionary items manufactured by Palmer Candy Company are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 1-800-831-0828 Monday through Friday 8am – 5pm.

Dietz and Watson is recalling the following items that contain “coppa” co-packed by Fratelli Beretta USA. Their co-packer has initiated this recall out of an abundance of precaution due to potential Salmonella contamination.

Consumption of food contaminated with Salmonella can cause salmonellosis, one of the most common bacterial foodborne illnesses. The most common symptoms of salmonellosis are diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever within 6 hours to 6 days after eating the contaminated product. The illness usually lasts 4 to 7 days. Most people recover without treatment. In some people, however, the diarrhea may be so severe that the patient needs to be hospitalized. Older adults, infants, and persons with weakened immune systems are more likely to develop a severe illness. Individuals concerned about an illness should contact their health care provider.

Fratelli Beretta USA, Inc., a Mount Olive, N.J. establishment, is recalling an undetermined amount of ready-to-eat (RTE) meat charcuterie products containing Coppa that may be under processed, which may have resulted in possible contamination with foodborne pathogens (Salmonella).

FSIS is working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and state public health partners to investigate a multistate outbreak of Salmonella. FSIS collected unopened RTE Coppa product as part of the investigation, which tested positive for Salmonella, but that product was not released into commerce. After further investigation, FSIS determined that the product subject to the recall may be under processed. Further testing is ongoing to determine if the product sample that tested positive for Salmonella is related to the outbreak. The company conducted a recall of charcuterie products on January 3, 2024, related to possible Salmonella contamination and FSIS issued a public health alert on January 18, 2024, related to additional charcuterie products. Anyone concerned about an illness should contact a healthcare provider.

Dole is issuing a precautionary recall due to the potential for cross-contamination of cheese contained in certain masterpacks with Listeria monocytogenes at their packaged cheese supplier.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

At this time, Dole is unaware of any specific illnesses associated with this particular recall, although it appears that illnesses may have occurred in connection with products distributed directly by Rizo-Lopez Foods or by other purchasers of their cheese.

Guests who have purchased any of these items should discard the product or return to the store for a full refund.

Fresh Creative Foods, a division of Reser’s Fine Foods, Inc. was notified by one of their cheese suppliers, RIZO-LÓPEZ FOODS, INC., that they have initiated a Class I recall because its dairy products have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The impacted cheese was used in the Chicken Taco Kits sold out of our Hornbacher’s Delis. These Taco Kits were available for sale from early November 2023 – February 7, 2024.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women. If you have illness concerns, please consult your health care provider.

Guests who have purchased this item are urged not to consume it and discard the product or return to the store for a full refund.

FDA recommends in these cases that consumers use extra vigilance in cleaning and sanitizing any surfaces that may have come in contact with this product to reduce the risk of cross-contamination. Listeria can survive in refrigerated temperatures and can easily spread to other foods and surfaces.
